The UAE has strongly condemned the Israeli forces’ raid on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) at the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the active and key role played by UNRWA in providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians, especially in light of the difficult circumstances they are going through as a result of the continued deteriorating humanitarian situation.
The ministry affirmed that these practices are inconsistent with the provisions of the United Nations Charter and international norms, and represent a serious violation that would exacerbate the critical humanitarian situation.
It also stressed the need to enable UNRWA and all other United Nations agencies and organisations to carry out their role in delivering urgent humanitarian aid without any obstacles.
The UAE also emphasised the need to support all regional and international efforts aimed at advancing the Middle East peace process and putting an end to illegal practices that threaten the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
It reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting peace and justice and upholding the rights of Palestinians, in accordance with international law and international efforts to protect civilians.
