H.H. Sheikh Mohammed unveils plans for preparatory schools for Emiratis

Dubai Media Office

A new school group will be set up in Dubai to enhance the quality of education provided to Emirati students and prepare them to attain university admissions in the UAE, and abroad.

The Rashid and Latifa Schools Establishments will be tasked with "developing and implementing educational programmes up to secondary level".

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a law pertaining to the formation of the schools.

The schools will provide "degrees" to students who complete accredited educational programmes.

Furthermore, the Rashid School for Boys and the Latifa School for Girls will no longer be overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), and will come under the jurisdiction of the Establishment

In addition, the Rashid and Latifa Schools Establishment will also establish its own schools in the emirate and abroad, either on its own or through a partnership with the private sector.

The Establishment will also be tasked with attracting highly qualified teachers and signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with educational entities in Dubai and outside the country to promote the education sector in Dubai.

The organisational structure of the Establishment will include Board of Trustees and the Executive Team.

While the Board will consist of five members, including the chairman and vice chairman, appointed through a decree by the Chairman of The Executive Council, for a three-year term, the Executive Team will include a CEO and a number of administrative, finance and technical staff to look into the operational activities.

The law also outlines the responsibilities of the Board and the procedures for appointing the CEO of the Establishment, among others.

The law is effective from its date of publication in the Official Gazette.
