Dr Farida Al Hosani has become the first Emirati woman to join the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework Advisory Group.
In her new role, Dr Al Hosani will strengthen the sharing of information concerning influenza viruses with pandemic potential.
She will also work on facilitating increased access to vaccines in developing countries.
Dr Al Hosani will hold the position for three years.
She holds the position of the Executive Director of Infectious Diseases at Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and has been the face of the UAE's COVID-19 response, leading the weekly media updates on the country's battle against the pandemic during the last two years.
