Two more hospitals in Abu Dhabi have been licensed to provide emergency care services.
Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City and Burjeel Hospital have been granted Emergency Department licences by the Department of Health (DoH) after meeting all the requirements.
Both hospitals have qualified emergency care physicians, supported by a range of specialists and equipment for emergency resuscitation, surgery and intensive care, operating 24/7.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Tawam Hospital, Madinat Zayed Hospital, Al Ruwais Hospital, Al Ain Hospital, and NMC Royal Hospital are the ones that already have emergency departments.
Last year, the DoH issued new standards for operating emergency departments in Abu Dhabi's public and private hospitals.
Facilities that don't meet the criteria are licensed as urgent care centres.
The DoH has urged patients suffering from acute, life-threatening conditions to head to Emergency Care Departments in the case of severe chest pain, breathing difficulties, loss of consciousness, heavy blood loss, serious injury, severe burn and suspected stroke.
Meanwhile, Urgent Care Centres conduct initial check-ups and diagnostic treatment and/or referral as appropriate.
Patients can visit such centres in the case of a minor illness or injury, strains, sprains, stitches, cuts, bites, severe sunburn and rashes.
