A man has been detained for attempting to smuggle 89 cocaine capsules, valued at Dh5 million, through Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport.
Customs inspection officers at the airport said advanced screening showed that the drugs, weighing approximately 1,198 gm, were hidden inside the man's intestine.
Officials said the traveller from a South American country had raised suspicions upon arrival.
He was then referred to the competent authorities to extract the 89 capsules from his intestine.
The General Directorate of Ports at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, said the smuggling attempt was made on Friday.
