His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has been awarded the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice.
It's in recognition of his efforts to protect the environment and ensure sustainable development, as well as for achieving balance between economic and social development and environmental protection.
The annual award honours individuals and organisations that promote peace, equality and social justice.
This year, its focus was environmental sustainability.
His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, received the prize on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed.
The award ceremony was held in Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, honouring the winners.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of the Al Ihsan Charitable Society, Saeed Al Rumaithi, Ahmed Al Mutawei and Muzna Al Mansouri were recognised as young changemakers in the field of environmental sustainability, and their prizes highlight the role of the youth in preserving the environment.
Tatiana Antonelli Abella, Founder and Managing Director of Goumbook, was also honoured for raising awareness among the local community of the dangers of pollution.
Prizes were also awarded to the "Plastic Pollution Coalition," the Bhamla Foundation, Maitha Al Hamli, Director of Marine Assessment and Marine Conservation Department at the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, and Arshi Ayub Mohamed Zaveri, CEO of the Trust with Trade Group.
