Dubai unveils plan to open floating mosque

A floating mosque is set to open next year at Dubai Water Canal as part of a religious tourism drive revealed by the emirate's Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD).

This project worth AED 55 million will have three floors, including a prayer hall set under water that can accommodate about 50-75 worshippers.

The other floors will feature a multi-purpose hall and an Islamic exhibition.

The IACAD said its latest initiative is part of efforts to strengthen Dubai’s position as an attractive destination for religious tourism, catering to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

As part of its religious tourism drive, the IACAD also plans to launch Ramadan and Eid markets near mosques, in addition to a Quranic exhibition.
