A recycling initiative in Dubai has cut single-use plastic water bottle usage by nearly 18 million in two years by dispensing free drinking water throughout the city.
Dubai Can, a citywide sustainability initiative, has helped reduce the number of bottles used thanks to 50 public water stations placed across the city, dispensing almost nine million litres of water.
The programme was launched in February, 2022 to reduce the utilisation of single-use plastic water bottles, and encourage people to build a more sustainable future.
Dubai Can’s objectives support the Dubai 2040 Urban Masterplan and Dubai’s commitment to helping the UAE achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and UAE NetZero 2050 targets.
