UK schoolgirl who fled to join IS wants to return home

LONDON METROPLITAN POLICE

A schoolgirl, who left London in 2015 to join the IS terror group, has said she now wants to return home.

The 19-year-old, who has been tracked down in Syria, talked about how she has no regrets about joining the IS but wanted to move back home because she feared for her unborn child.

In an interview with the Times, Shamima Begum said she "could not endure the suffering and hardship that staying on the battlefield involved" and highlighted how the IS group was "getting smaller and smaller".

"And there is so much oppression and corruption going on that I don't really think they deserve victory."

Shamima and her two friends - Kadiza Sultana and Amira Abase - made headlines when they flew from Gatwick to Turkey in February 2015, after telling their parents they were going out for the day. They later crossed the border into Syria.
