Protests escalate in Lebanon as currency collapses

Protests in Lebanon have escalated as the country’s currency collapses.

People have taken to the streets in different parts of the country after the Lebanese pound lost 70 per cent of its value since October, which was when protests first began.

An emergency cabinet meeting will be held and has been organized by the prime minister in order to discuss the economic crisis.

Those dependent on hard currency savings have fallen into poverty, and reports suggest that their situation is only worsening as COVID-19 continues to impact the economy.
