Power has now been restored in New York after a partial blackout Saturday disrupted subway services and impacted more than 70,000 homes and businesses.
The outage turned off street and traffic lights and left a number of Broadway shows cancelled. It also temporarily trapped people on trains and in elevators.
New York Police Department later dismissed reports of foul play and confirmed it was "a mechanical issue".
An investigation is currently underway to determine exactly what triggered the five-hour blackout.
