Nine people have been injured, four of them seriously, after a person released smoke bombs at a Taipei subway station and then attacked bystanders, the official Central News Agency said.
Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai confirmed the attack in comments on his Facebook page, without providing further details.
The attacker was suspected to have then killed himself, the Central News Agency said.
It was not immediately clear what the motive was.
