India's celebrated historian Ramchandra Guha has been detained in the southern city of Bengaluru while protesting against the controversial citizenship law.
Video footage showed Guha being dragged by three policemen while giving an interview to a local media station.
"I am protesting non-violently, but look they are stopping us," Guha said before being surrounded by the police officials on Thursday.
Curbs on public gatherings have been imposed on several cities after some protests turned violent as demonstrators and police clashed.
