Hong Kong International Airport reopens after protests

MANAN VATSYAYANA / AFP

Flights have resumed at Hong Kong's international airport after thousands of anti-government protesters brought it to a standstill on Monday.

However, more than 200 flights have been cancelled with flight movements still badly affected.

Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's flag carrier, said it had cancelled more than 200 flights to and from the airport on Tuesday.

Protesters had been occupying the arrivals hall of the busy airport since Friday.

They're calling for more independence for Hong Kong and an end to police brutality.

Meanwhile, China says the protests have begun to show the “sprouts of terrorism”.
