Australia has recorded its first death from COVID-19 in a month, taking the COVID-19 toll to 103 with 7,521 confirmed cases.
Victoria State's Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, said the man's death overnight took the state's coronavirus death toll to 20.
"When we get additional cases, there will be a risk of people dying or be at risk of further cases being hospitalised and going to intensive care," he said, adding, "That's why we need to get on top of the numbers in general."
The upswing in new cases in Victoria has sparked fears of a second wave, with authorities extending its state of emergency for another month and reimposing restrictions on gatherings.
