New Zealand crush India in first T20I

New Zealand thrashed India by 80 runs in Wellington to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Twenty20 International series.

After being asked to bat, the Black Caps posted 219-6 in their allotted 20 overs, with Tim Seifert hitting 84 off 43 balls.

In reply, India were dismissed for 139 in 19.2 overs as Time Southee claimed three wickets (3-17).

MS Dhoni (39 off 31 balls) played his part but wickets kept falling at the other end.

The next game will be played in Auckland on Friday.

India had earlier clinched a 4-1 win in the five-match One Day International series.
