Rafael Nadal has had the last laugh against Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon.
The Spaniard beat the mercurial Australian 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-3) in a highly entertaining encounter to progress to the third round of the tournament.
The match featured Kyrgios serving underarm twice and loudly complaining about Nadal’s pace of play.
Nadal will play take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the next round.
Elsewhere Seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams bounced back to beat teenage qualifier Kaja Juvan in three hard fought sets.
Williams will now play German 18th seed Julia Gorges in the third round.
Meanwhile Andy Murray marked his return to Wimbledon with a victory in the men’s doubles.
Murray and his partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert came from behind to prevail 4-6 6-1 6-4 6-0 against Marius Copil and Ugo Humbert.
The Scotsman, who is a two time singles champion at Wimbledon, is retiring to action following a crucial hip surgery.
