Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has quit international cricket.

“Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired,” the 39-year-old wrote on Instagram with a video montage which had images from his 15-year career with the Indian national team.

Dhoni, who stared off his international career in an ODI against Bangladesh in 2004, had announced his retirement from Tests in 2014.

He has not played for India since the team’s semi-final exit at the 50-overs World Cup in July last year.

From 350 ODIs, Dhoni amassed 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57, and struck 1,617 runs in 98 T20Is at an average of 37.60.

Under Dhoni's captaincy, India won the 50-over World Cup in 2011 and the World Twenty20 in 2007, in addition to the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
