Spain’s sports ministry has approved La Liga’s plans for clubs to test their players and coaching staff for COVID-19 before they can return to training.

This comes as the league anticipates to start the season in June, after it was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

One of the strictest lockdowns in Europe forced athletes in Spain to train at home since early March, which was part of the Spanish government’s efforts to curb the spread of the virus.

The presidents of La Liga, Javier Tebas, said that it would cost them AED4.03 billion (1 billion Euros) in losses if they did not finish the season.
