India deal early blow after declaring at 518-5 v West Indies

India racked up 518-5 before declaring their first innings and returned to reduce West Indies to 26-1 at tea to tighten their grip over the second and final test between the sides on Saturday.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) fell short of a double hundred but there was no respite for West Indies as India captain Shubman Gill made 129 not out to keep the hosts on course for a 2-0 series sweep.

West Indies lost opener John Campbell (10) early in their reply courtesy of B Sai Sudharsan's remarkable reflex catch at forward short leg.

Campbell played a full-blooded sweep shot to a Ravindra Jadeja delivery and the ball hit the grill of Sudharsan's helmet as the fielder was trying to evade the ball before lodging into his cupped hands.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul (13) and Alick Athanaze (two) were in the middle with West Indies still 492 behind.

Earlier, when India resumed on 318-2, the crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium was left disappointed as Jaiswal added two runs to his overnight score before being run out after an almighty mix-up with Gill.

Promoted to number five, Nitish Kumar Reddy made a brisk 44, while Dhruv Jurel scored 43 as India surged past the 500-mark.

Gill duly brought up his 10th test hundred, the fifth this year, before declaring the innings immediately after Jurel was clean bowled by West Indies captain Roston Chase.
