Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad has broken one of the longest standing world records in women's athletics.

The 29-year-old clinched victory in the 400-metre hurdles at the US Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, clocking a time of 52.20 seconds.

She was 0.14 seconds faster than Russia’s Yuliya Pechonkina, who had set the previous world record 16 years ago.

Dalilah was already a notable runner because of her gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics in the same event.
