Arsenal defeat Manchester City to win Community Shield

Arsenal won the Community Shield 4-1 on penalties, having scored a late injury-time equaliser to take the game to spot-kicks. Leandro Trossard's deflected effort in the 101st minute cancelled out Cole Palmer's stunning strike that had given City the lead late on.

Fabio Vieira kept his cool to seal the victory from the spot, after Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri both failed to convert their penalties.

Gunners’ goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale said the win was, “a statement” and confirmed that Arsenal have what it takes to beat the best. He told ITV, “It’s a marker to know we can go and beat Manchester City in a big game when it matters.”

Arsenal start their Premier League campaign next Saturday at home to Nottingham Forest, while Pep Guardiola’s men take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Friday.
