The UAE has announced a major initiative aimed at addressing critical healthcare disparities worldwide.
The UAE Global Hospitals Programme is part of the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative, which was unveiled by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan earlier this year.
Nearly $150 million (AED 550 million) will be invested in this ambitious programme over the next decade, to construct up to 10 hospitals to cater specifically to the healthcare needs of underserved communities, ensuring access to medical care where it is needed most.
The first facility under this initiative, the UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases, is currently being built in Surakarta in Indonesia's Central Java.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, this hospital is set to become a cornerstone of the UAE Global Hospitals Programme, overseen by the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council.
This hospital is expected to provide critical services to thousands of patients suffering from heart diseases, marking a significant milestone in the UAE's efforts to promote global health equity.
"Over the coming decade, this initiative will drive meaningful change, embodying our commitment to assisting the underserved and enhancing the wellbeing and dignity of communities worldwide," said His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chair of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council.
