UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has directed the renaming of Al Ain International Airport to Tahnoun International Airport, in honour of the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan.
The new official name takes effect today, and in a statement, the renaming is said to "reflect the values of loyalty and gratitude to the founding generation, whose wisdom, dedication and unwavering commitment contributed to building the nation at various stages of progress."
The airport - located in Al Ain in the eastern region of Abu Dhabi - was opened on March 31, 1994, and in 2025 it was announced it will undergo a five-year development plan to upgrade the airport's infrastructure and main facilities, with the aim to increase air travel and tourism.
