The UAE has unveiled a project that will supply desalinated water to southern Gaza as part of the Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 campaign to tackle worsening water crisis in the Strip.
Under the project, a pipeline - stretching 6.7 km - will connect a desalination plant set up by the UAE on the Egyptian side to a displacement area between Khan Younis and Rafah governorates.
The 315mm water transmission line, which is currently under construction, will aim to provide 15 litres of desalinated water per person daily, benefiting around 600,000 residents in southern Gaza.
The conflict in the Gaza Strip has destroyed more than 80 per cent of water infrastructure in the region.
Sharif Al-Nayrab, media director for Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 in Gaza, said it's a vital initiative aimed at securing safe drinking water for the most affected areas.
