UAE Minister of State Lana Nusseibeh has held talks with International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Arabian Gulf.
The discussions focused on threats to commercial vessels and seafarers following Iranian attacks and disruptions affecting regional shipping routes.
Nusseibeh stressed the importance of restoring safe maritime navigation and ensuring the protection of crews operating in the region.
She also thanked the IMO for its role in supporting humanitarian access, assisting stranded seafarers and backing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and maintaining freedom of navigation.
During the meeting, the UAE reaffirmed its support for international law and the principle of free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes.
Nusseibeh said targeting commercial shipping or using the Strait as a form of economic pressure represented a threat to regional stability and global energy security.
The two also discussed international efforts to maintain maritime safety and the wider impact of disruptions in the Strait on the global economy.
The UAE said it would continue working with international partners and multilateral organisations to support maritime security and uphold international shipping norms.
