UAE 'deeply disappointed' over UN Gaza vote

The UAE said it was "deeply disappointed" with the outcome of Tuesday's vote in the UN Security Council on the Gaza humanitarian ceasefire draft resolution, which was supported by 13 of the 15 members.

The United States used its veto power for the third time regarding the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, obstructing the demand for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.

In a statement, the UAE Mission to UN said, "After more than four months of carnage and no end in sight, this war must end."

Meanwhile, Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to His Highness UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said the US veto was regrettable and deepened the humanitarian catastrophe.

Posting on social media platform X, he said the international system is collapsing in the face of narrow political considerations, the price of which is being paid by civilians.

Thirteen of the Council's member states voted in favour of the text drafted by Algeria, while Britain abstained from voting.
