UAE condemns attacks in Ethiopia, urges de-escalation

The UAE has strongly condemned recent attacks by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and allied armed groups against Ethiopian federal forces, as well as the seizure of airports in the Tigray region and the escalation of fighting in the neighbouring Afar and Amhara regions.

The UAE warned that the developments pose a threat to Ethiopia's unity, sovereignty and stability.

Minister of State Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE's full solidarity with the Ethiopian government and people, stressing the country's rejection of any attempt to change Ethiopia's constitutional order through force or armed action.

He reiterated the UAE's support for Ethiopia's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, security and stability, and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

Sheikh Shakhboot also stressed the importance of protecting civilians, preventing further violence, adhering to the Pretoria Peace Agreement and prioritising dialogue and peaceful solutions to resolve the conflict.

He reaffirmed the UAE's support for all efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in Ethiopia, while warning against any escalation that could undermine security across the Horn of Africa.
