The UAE has called for a more inclusive international approach to combating extremism and hate speech, with greater involvement from community leaders, young people, civil society and technology companies.
Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, made the call at a global conference on interreligious and intercultural dialogue in New York ahead of the high-level UN General Assembly.
Al Marar said promoting tolerance and tackling hate speech should play a greater role in the work of the United Nations, including crisis prevention, peacekeeping operations and special political missions.
He highlighted the UAE's own initiatives, including the Abrahamic Family House and the Document on Human Fraternity, as well as its role in drafting a UN Security Council resolution on tolerance, peace and security adopted in 2023.
Al Marar also noted that more than 200 nationalities live and work in the UAE, saying cultural diversity and peaceful coexistence remain central to the country's approach.
The conference was organised by Morocco in cooperation with the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect and the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
