The UAE has urged the UN to take action after Iran continues to violate the Security Council resolution that outlines an end to its attacks and the protection of civilians and infrastructure in the region.
During the UNSC Open Debate on the Protection of Civilians, UAE Ambassador to UN, Ghasaq Shaheen, stressed the need to enforce the compliance of the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2817 (2026) amid continued violations against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The resolution calls for an end to Iran's attacks and the protection of civilians, while reaffirming that navigational rights and freedoms must be respected.
Shaheen highlighted that Iranian attacks on the UAE and other Gulf countries, and its blockade of Strait of Hormuz threatens civilians, humanitarian access, international navigation, and global economic security.
The UAE representative reaffirmed the country's commitment to upholding international humanitarian law, strengthening accountability, and advancing regional security and stability.
