UAE becomes second country to approve Lipfendra to treat high cholesterol

The UAE has become the second country to approve once-daily, oral pill - Lipfendra - to treat adults with elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) cholesterol, a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Making the announcement, the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) explained that Lipfendra can also treat "certain inherited conditions" as long as it is cleared by a healthcare professional.

It is said to expand treatment options for adults and improve their quality of life.

Patients are advised to maintain a balanced diet and regular physical activity alongside the treatment.

The move is part of efforts by the UAE to authorise innovative medicines and expand treatment options for adults.
