Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded an AED 2 billion contract for the Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor Development Project, which includes the construction of 15 bridges and tunnels across the Emirate.

Extending 12 km, the new corridor links Sheikh Zayed Road with Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and Emirates Road.

The project includes the construction of 7 bridges extending 2,300 metres and 8 tunnels covering 900 metres, increasing the capacity of east-west corridors by 12 per cent.

It will support residential and development areas with a population of more than 650,000 people, including Nad Al Sheba, Al Barari, Dubai Hills, and Dubai District One.

The Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor has a capacity of 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and is expected to accommodate more than 130,000 trips per day.

The project will also reduce travel time between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road from 33 minutes to 15 minutes, a reduction of 54 per cent.

12.5 km of cycling tracks will be constructed to enhance connectivity between cycling routes from Al Qudra to Jumeirah.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
