Over AED 2 million in cash recovered from lost items in Dubai taxis during 2025

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed the recovery of over AED 2 million in cash from lost property in taxis during 2025, handling a total of 104,162 cases throughout the year.

Around 35,000 electronic devices, including smartphones, laptops, and tablets were also restored, alongside the return of approximately 3,000 passports and official documents, jewellery, and other valuable personal belongings.

The reports were handled by the Lost and Found Team at the Call Centre, operating under the Customer Happiness Department, through a set of approved procedures that ensured rapid response and accurate follow-up. 

The RTA managed the lost property reports from its receipt and verification of trip details to the secure return of the items to customers. 

The authority has ensured ease of reporting by providing multiple communication channels, including the call centre, which accounted for 56 per cent of reports, while 30.8 per cent applied through the text-based chat service with the virtual agent Mahboub, and 10.8 per cent through the smart applications. 

Inclusive communication was prioritised at the call centre with the delivery of services in several languages, including  Arabic, English, Hindi, Filipino, French, Chinese, and Russian. 

Meera Al Shaikh, Director of Customer Happiness at the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, RTA, stated that "the lost property reporting framework is built on the readiness of specialised teams and effective integration between the Call Centre, taxi companies and drivers, supported by smart technology systems that help protect customers’ belongings and strengthen confidence in the services provided".
