Jamal Al Musharakh, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, warned that the horrors unfolding in Sudan prove there is no military solution to the civil war.
Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council’s special session on El Fasher, he highlighted the US-led QUAD's roadmap, which calls for a humanitarian truce, a permanent ceasefire and a civilian-led government.
Al Musharakh condemned attacks on civilians by both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, urging an immediate halt to violence and obstruction of aid.
He called for accountability for atrocities and criticised parties prolonging the conflict while weaponising humanitarian access.
"We urge the SAF and the RSF to immediately cease all attacks against the civilian population, which constitute grave violations of international humanitarian law," said Al Musharakh.
The UAE, he added, stands in solidarity with Sudan and has pledged an additional $100 million for urgent humanitarian operations in El Fasher, with readiness to do more.
