A coalition of human rights organisations has issued a statement during the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, praising the UAE's decision to pardon Bangladeshi nationals involved in recent protests.

These individuals had been convicted of crimes related to security and public order.

The coalition, led by the Union Association for Human Rights and comprising over 20 national, regional and international organisations, including nine with consultative status at the UN, highlighted that this action reflects the UAE's commitment to humanitarian values and tolerance.

They commended the swift response from the UAE Attorney-General in facilitating the pardon, which includes suspending penalties and assisting in the return of the defendants to Bangladesh.

The statement also hailed the UAE's dedication to fair legal proceedings and noted the humane conditions provided during detention, aligning with international standards.
