Sharjah's embarking on a project to replace skyscraper facades, reducing the risk of fires spreading quickly through them.

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has committed AED 100 million to the first phase, covering 40 residential and commercial towers.

Engineer Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Director of Technical Services at the Sharjah Municipality, says the project will replace combustible aluminum cladding with non-combustible material.

The use of the aluminium facades, which can cause a fire to spread in minutes, was outlawed in Sharjah for new tower-builds in 2016.
