Authorities in Dubai have unveiled a comprehensive traffic and security management plan for New Year’s Eve.
Teams from Dubai Police, the Road and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Ambulance and Dubai Civil Defence will work in a unified manner to ensure smooth proceedings on December 31.
Around 10,000 security cameras will monitor locations hosting the celebrations and additional patrol teams will be deployed.
There will be dedicated paths for families and bachelors to get to the fireworks viewing areas from Burj Khalifa and Financial Centre metro stations.
As many as 170 buses will be deployed by the RTA to transport people to metro stations and parking locations once the celebrations are over.
The Burj Khalifa Metro station will be closed from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am, while those with reservations at Dubai Mall and Boulevard areas are urged to get there early as the Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard will be closed from 4:00 pm.
Other road closures will include:
Lower Financial Centre and Al Sukook Streets will be closed from 8:00 pm.
Al Asayel Street, from Oud Metha Street towards the Burj Khalifa area will close at 4:00 pm.
On Al Mustaqbal Street, the section between Zabeel 2 and Al Meydan Streets will be gradually closed from 4:00 pm.
For safety reasons, the pedestrian bridges on the water canal will be closed, in addition to the support elevators, as well as the pedestrian sidewalk on the Sheikh Zayed Road bridge on the canal.
Dubai Police have urged the public to contact 901 for non-emergencies and 999 for emergencies.
Authorities have also reminded the public that fireworks displays will be held across 29 sites in Dubai, to ensure the celebrations are held safely without overcrowding.
