Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract worth AED 278 million for a major street lighting project that will cover 40 districts and streets.
This initiative is part of the Street Lighting Plan 2023-2026, which aims to enhance road network facilities to keep up with Dubai's development and urban expansion.
The overall project is expected to be completed by 2026, using energy-efficient LED technology, which offers a 55 per cent reduction in energy consumption and a 173 per cent increase in lifespan compared to conventional lighting units.
"The main goal of this plan is to improve traffic safety and security for all road users, including vehicles and pedestrians. The selection of these areas is based on careful consideration of traffic safety and security standards, traffic volumes, and the pace of urban growth," said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA's Board of Executive Directors.
