Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre looks to become first WHO partner in region

WAM

The Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre (ADSCC) discussed the possibility of becoming the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) first partner in the Middle East.

It came after Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, visited the facility.

The WHO has led the global effort in combatting COVID-19 and commended ADSCC for providing its cutting-edge stem cell treatment to infected patients. More than 13,800 patients have received the ‘UAE-Cell19’ treatment to date.

The centre specialises in developing technology methods for targeted stem cell therapies that rapidly detect, identify, and count specific cells.

For instance, clinical trials will be started to prove the safety and effectiveness of CAR T-Cell therapy in treating hematologic cancers.

The team are also working towards creating treatments for Type-1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis.

ADSCC’s research was recognised and referenced in the latest edition of the WHO Therapeutics and COVID-19 Living Guideline issued on December 7, which notes the most up-to-date recommendations for the use of therapeutics in the treatment of COVID-19.
