There has been a massive increase in the number of people donating blood in Abu Dhabi in the last 10 years.
According to the emirate's Statistics Centre, the total number of donors have surged from 21,834 in 2008 to 57,900 in 2018- which is an increase of nearly 165 per cent.
Around 43,700 blood units were donated in 2018, 46 per cent of which were in the O+ category.
Each unit can help save the lives of three people who need blood or one of its components, such as red blood cells, platelets or plasma.
Authorities say the steady rise in the number of donors reflects the success of their awareness campaigns and community outreach initiatives.
