Abu Dhabi Police have urged motorists to avoid leaving potentially flammable items inside vehicles during the summer months, warning that extreme temperatures can increase the risk of fires.
The reminder forms part of the force's "Summer Safely" campaign and the Ministry of Interior's "Accident-Free Summer" initiative, aimed at raising awareness of seasonal safety risks.
Police said a number of vehicle fires are linked to failures in following basic safety precautions, particularly during periods of intense heat.
Drivers have been advised not to leave six types of items inside vehicles: pressurised containers, batteries and power storage devices, hand sanitisers, perfumes, gas cylinders and cigarette lighters.
According to Abu Dhabi Police, these items can become highly flammable or even explode when exposed to direct sunlight and high temperatures, potentially leading to vehicle fires.
The force also noted that vehicles already contain combustible materials, including fuel, oils and interior components made from plastic and rubber, making preventive measures especially important during the summer.
Motorists are being encouraged to carry out regular vehicle maintenance, ensure safety equipment is in working order, and keep a fire extinguisher and first-aid kit inside their vehicles.
Abu Dhabi Police said the precautions can help improve road safety and reduce the risk of incidents during the hotter months of the year.
