Travel restrictions in the emirate of Abu Dhabi have been extended by another week, starting today.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the extension is aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the National Screening Programme to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The ban, which came into effect last Tuesday, applies to movement within Abu Dhabi’s regions as well as in and out of the emirate.

Residents of Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Dhafra are free to travel within their cities but cannot leave them or go to the other emirates.

People who need to travel under exceptional circumstances can apply for a move permit on the Abu Dhabi Police website.

The general exemptions are for employees of vital sectors, chronic disease patients visiting hospitals and for those transporting necessary goods.

Permits are not required for passengers heading to the airport but they will have to show their passports and tickets when asked by the patrol officers.
