Bicycle and electric scooter users who fail to follow safety rules or ride in prohibited areas could face fines between AED 200 and AED 500.
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), along with Abu Dhabi Police, on Thursday announced they will begin enforcing fines for violators.
The move is aimed at implementing the highest standards of safety and promoting positive behaviour among riders as the UAE capital pushes towards environmentally-friendly transport options.
The ITC added that bicycle and electric bikes are one of the “first and last mile” services that links public bus stations, shopping malls, services and residential areas and enables community members to reach their destinations quickly and at a very low cost.
