12,000 drivers exempted from toll gate fee in Abu Dhabi

WAM

About 12,000 motorists have been granted exemption from paying the AED 4 fee while crossing the toll gates in Abu Dhabi.

Exemptions are granted to senior and retired citizens, families with limited income and people of determination.

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) said that Darb toll gate users have crossed 400,000.

The new toll gates were made operational from January 2, 2021 and are located on four bridges, namely the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, the Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Al Maqta Bridge and Musaffah Bridge in Abu Dhabi.

Under the new system that's aimed to reduce congestion and promote the use of public transport, drivers will pay AED 4 for every time they cross the bridges during peak hours, from Saturday to Thursday (between 7:00 am and 9:00 am, and between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm).
