Authorities in Jordan have announced the extension of the month-long lockdown until the end of April.

According to the government spokesman, Prime Minister Omar Razzaz took the decision in light of "developments and recommendations" related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It comes just days after emergency laws were enacted in the country, giving the government sweeping powers to restrict civil and political rights.

Schools, universities and government agencies will continue to remain shut, while medical and essential public services will function as normal.

So far, the country has recorded 389 positive cases and seven deaths.
