UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi expects more economic deals to be fast-tracked with other countries after signing an historic Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Canada.

A high-level delegation led by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, returned from an official visit to Canada on Wednesday where they witnessed the signing of the CEPA, as well as another three agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) aiming to expand cooperation and develop partnerships in key sectors, including defence, renewable energy and diplomatic training.

The CEPA concluded negotiations in July, taking a record 47 days to finalise the economic agreement and the first CEPA the UAE have signed with a current G7 nation.

Speaking on the Business Breakfast on DubaiEye 103.8 FM, Dr. Al Zeyoudi, who was part of the delegation to Canada, believes this agreement will give encouragement to other nations to do business with the UAE:

On the sidelines of the visit, Emirati companies held trade and investment talks with their Canadian counterparts, valued at up to $15 billion, under a $50 billion investment framework announced during Prime Minister Mark Carney’s November 2025 visit to the UAE.

These negotiations covered four key strategic sectors: mining, logistics, energy and investment in sovereign wealth funds.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi explained why these deals with Canada are so important for the UAE long term:
