Microsoft has announced that Windows 10, its current operating system, will no longer receive any feature updates, with the latest version, 22H2, being the last.
The company has confirmed that all editions of Windows 10 will remain in support until October 14, 2025, with monthly security updates being released until that date. Existing business releases will receive updates beyond that date based on their specific lifecycles.
The announcement confirms what many had suspected for some time, that Windows 10 was nearing the end of its life cycle. Microsoft's latest Windows 11, 2022, update, previously known as 'Windows 11 2H22,' is a collection of new features addressing many of the things that people do not regularly use, including accessibility features. While Windows 10 has been an excellent operating system, it has made it difficult for some to recommend a move to Windows 11.
This announcement marks a significant shift for Microsoft, as Windows 11 is now officially the future. While Windows 10 fans may be disappointed, it's clear that the operating system is reaching the end of the road, and users will need to start considering their options for upgrading. The operating system launched in 2015 and Microsoft stopped selling its downloads in January this year.
