Dubai residents can now access electricity and water services by asking questions through ChatGPT, after Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) expanded its customer support onto the AI platform.
DEWA said the move makes it the first government utility in the world to offer services directly through an artificial intelligence system, rather than relying solely on websites or mobile apps.
Customers can use ChatGPT to check bills, review account details, get billing support, find nearby EV Green Charger locations, and access information about Customer Happiness Centres, including opening hours and contact details. DEWA says additional services will be added gradually.
DEWA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said the initiative reflects a broader move away from traditional online interaction models towards services embedded within global AI platforms. He said the goal is to offer faster, more intuitive and more proactive customer experiences.
Officials said the service operates within DEWA’s existing governance, security and privacy framework, with controls in place as new features are rolled out.
Dubai has positioned itself as an early adopter of artificial intelligence across government services, as part of a wider strategy to become a global hub for AI and sustainable innovation.
