US officials charge 16 more football officials

United States Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch holds a press conference in relation and enforcement action relating to FIFA and the arrests of officials Alfredo Hawit and Juan Ángel Napout December 3, 2015.

US officials have announced charges against 16 more football officials, as part of their ongoing investigation into corruption at the sport's world governing body, FIFA. Brazil's former football federation chief Ricardo Teixeira is among those accused of being "involved in criminal schemes involving well over $200m in bribes and kickbacks". The latest charges comes on the heels of the early morning arrests of FIFA Vice Presidents Alfredo Hawit and Juan Angel Napout in Zurich. They've been arrested on suspicion of accepting millions of dollars in bribes. U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch has held a news conference addressing the latest arrests. Lynch had tough words for the new defendants, saying they hijacked the world's most popular sport for ill-gotten gains, and that she is determined to see justice served.
