Rugby World Cup: Scotland see off tired Japan, plus other latest results

NULL

Japan’s 34-32 win over South Africa four days ago was arguably the biggest upset in tournament history – but it wasn’t to be repeated Wednesday night as after the Brave Blossoms were slayed 45-10 by Scotland. For the first 40 minutes, it looked like Japan was set to continue their winning streak after Amanaki Mafi crashed over for the opening try. However, Vern Cotter’s men ran in five second-half tries leaving Japan far behind. In other Rugby World Cup news, Australia got their campaign under way with an easy 28-13 win over Fiji at the Millennium Stadium. Two tries from David Pocock plus a second-half effort from Sekope Kepu put the Wallabies well in the lead. However, Michael Cheika's side failed to score the all-important fourth try that would have earned them a bonus point. And finally, France’s Sofiane Guitoune scored a brace to help France secure an impressive 38-11 victory over Romania, pushing them to the top of Pool D. Tries in each half from Guitoune as well as three more from Yannick Nyanga, Wesley Fofana, and Gael Fickou gave France the bonus-point win.
